Product Description

Good PerformanceThermoplastic Powder Coating Marking Paint High-Durable Road Surface Paint

                                       Product Description

Thermoplastic powder coating is a type of durable, heat-applied coating commonly used for road markings, traffic signs, and other outdoor applications. It’s made from a mixture of synthetic resins, pigments, glass beads (for reflectivity), and fillers that solidify when cooled after being heated to a molten state. Unlike regular paint, which dries through solvent evaporation, thermoplastic paint is applied in a hot, liquid form (typically at temperatures between 180°C and 220°C or 356°F to 428°F) and hardens as it cools, forming a thick, tough layer that bonds well to surfaces like asphalt or concrete.
It’s popular for its longevity, weather resistance, and ability to withstand heavy traffic. The glass beads embedded in it enhance visibility at night by reflecting light from vehicle headlights. You’ll see it in things like lane lines, crosswalks, or parking lot markings. There are two main types: hydrocarbon-based (derived from petroleum) and alkyd-based (made from natural oils), with the former being more common due to cost and performance.

Key steps of Using Thermoplastic Paint:

  • Surface Preparation
    • Clean the road surface thoroughly—sweep away dirt, dust, and debris, and use a blower or pressure washer if needed.
    • Ensure the surface is completely dry; moisture prevents bonding.
    • Remove oil, grease, or old markings (e.g., by grinding or blasting) that could interfere.
    • Optionally, apply a primer or tack coat (especially on concrete or worn asphalt) to improve adhesion.
  • Heating the Thermoplastic
    • Load the thermoplastic material (pellets, blocks, or powder) into a melting kettle or pre-heater.
    • Heat it to the recommended temperature, typically 180°C–220°C (356°F–428°F), depending on the formulation.
    • Stir occasionally to ensure even melting and prevent scorching—overheating can degrade the material.
  • Application
    • Transfer the molten thermoplastic to the application equipment (e.g., screed box, sprayer, or handheld applicator).
    • Apply it to the prepared surface:
      • Extrusion: Pour or extrude through a screed for thick, uniform lines.
      • Spray: Use a spray system for thinner, faster coverage.
      • Preformed: Position pre-cut shapes and heat in place with a torch.
      • Hand Pour: Pour and shape manually with tools.
    • Control thickness (1–3 mm for most methods) and align with markings or stencils as needed.
  • Adding Glass Beads
    • Sprinkle glass beads onto the wet, hot thermoplastic surface (or mix them in during spraying) to ensure reflectivity.
    • Timing is critical—beads must embed before it cools but not sink too deep.
    • Typical rate: 0.4–0.6 kg per square meter, depending on standards.
  • Cooling and Setting
    • Allow the thermoplastic to cool naturally—it hardens in 2–10 minutes, depending on thickness, air temperature, and surface conditions.
    • Avoid traffic or disturbance until it’s fully set to prevent deformation.
  • Inspection and Cleanup
    • Check the marking for uniform thickness, clean edges, and proper bead coverage.
    • Remove any excess material or spills from the surrounding area.
    • Ensure the site is safe and ready for use once cooled.
Applications of Thermoplastic Road Marking Paint
  • Road Safety Markings:
    • Lane Lines: Defines driving lanes on highways, streets, and rural roads (e.g., solid or dashed lines).
    • Centerlines: Separates opposing traffic flows for safety.
    • Edge Lines: Marks road boundaries to guide drivers, especially at night or in poor weather.
  • Pedestrian and Traffic Guidance:
    • Crosswalks: Provides clear, durable markings for pedestrian crossings.
    • Zebra Stripes: High-visibility patterns at intersections or pedestrian zones.
    • Arrows and Symbols: Directs traffic flow (e.g., turn arrows, stop lines, yield symbols).
  • Specialized Road Features:
    • Bike Lanes: Designates cycling paths with solid or broken lines, often in bright colors.
    • Bus Lanes: Marks dedicated lanes for public transport.
    • Speed Bumps or Rumble Strips: Applied in raised profiles to slow traffic.
  • Parking Areas:
    • Parking Lines: Defines spaces in parking lots or garages.
    • Handicap Symbols: Marks accessible parking zones with durable, visible designs.
  • Airports:
    • Runway and Taxiway Markings: Guides aircraft with high-visibility lines and symbols that withstand heavy loads and weather.
  • Industrial and Private Use:
    • Factory Floors: Marks pathways, safety zones, or equipment areas in warehouses.
    • Private Roads: Used on campuses, estates, or complexes for organized traffic flow.
  • Decorative or Custom Markings:
    • Colored thermoplastic can be used for aesthetic designs, school zones, or playground markings.
